South Pennine 24 | 24 Miles
The South Pennine 24 is a challenging moorland walk organised by South Pennine LDWA. Every year up to 150 walkers and runners take on the challenge and head up onto the moors, tackling 3900ft (1188m) of ascent and descent.

The route starts from Dove Stone Reservoir and heads up onto the moors, passing Chew Reservoir, Laddow Rocks, Crowden and then via Torside, Rhodeswood, Valehouse and Bottoms Reservoirs into Hollingworth, then up onto Wild Bank Hill towards the Swineshaw Reservoirs and over Slatepit Moor and the Tameside Trail back to the start.

The challenge event featured 4 checkpoints, each one having a great range of snacks and drinks to keep you going.

I ran this (slowly) but it’s mainly a walkers event, with a cut off time of 10 hours to complete the course. You can find out more about the South Pennine 24 on the LDWA website.

If you enjoy a long day on the hills, I’d highly recommend joining the LDWA. It only costs ยฃ18 a year for an individual (ยฃ25.50 for a family) and you get access to lots of amazing walking events. They have a database of walks including long distance trails, challenge events and more. Check them out! This isn’t an ad, by the way – just sharing something I’m genuinely passionate about.
