Steel Cotton Rail Trail: Sheffield to Dore & Totley | 5 Miles

Starting right in the city, this section of the Steel Cotton Rail Trail quickly shows off how easy it is to swap Sheffieldโ€™s busy streets for peaceful green spaces. At just 5 miles, itโ€™s a lovely introduction to the trail and takes you past some cracking highlights before finishing up at Dore & Totley, right on the edge of the Peak District.

This post came about after a lovely invite from the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership, who asked me to help spread the word about their new walking trail. I wasnโ€™t paid to do this – I just thought it was a great idea worth sharing.

Walk Highlights

River Sheaf Walk

Leaving the station, the trail follows the River Sheaf โ€“ a quiet, tree-lined escape from the city that feels a world away from the bustle. Keep an eye out for wildlife and old industrial remains tucked alongside the water.

Millhouses Park

Further along, Millhouses Park adds a burst of colour and activity to the walk. With its ornamental gardens, river stepping stones and even a boating lake, itโ€™s a favourite green space for locals and a cheerful stop along the way.
