Steel Cotton Rail Trail: Sheffield to Dore & Totley | 5 Miles
Starting right in the city, this section of the Steel Cotton Rail Trail quickly shows off how easy it is to swap Sheffield’s busy streets for peaceful green spaces. At just 5 miles, it’s a lovely introduction to the trail and takes you past some cracking highlights before finishing up at Dore & Totley, right on the edge of the Peak District.

This post came about after a lovely invite from the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership, who asked me to help spread the word about their new walking trail. I wasn’t paid to do this – I just thought it was a great idea worth sharing.
Walk Highlights
River Sheaf Walk
Leaving the station, the trail follows the River Sheaf – a quiet, tree-lined escape from the city that feels a world away from the bustle. Keep an eye out for wildlife and old industrial remains tucked alongside the water.

Millhouses Park
Further along, Millhouses Park adds a burst of colour and activity to the walk. With its ornamental gardens, river stepping stones and even a boating lake, it’s a favourite green space for locals and a cheerful stop along the way.
