Here’s one a route to save for a rainy day in th Here’s one a route to save for a rainy day in the Lake District… We had a wander from Dalegarth Station along the old railway track to Gill Force and then up through a beautiful lush gorge to Stanley Ghyll. The path takes you up to a viewing platform which leans out over the gorge so you can see how far the drop is!! Wainwrights 94 and 95 ☑️ After last Saturday Wainwrights 94 and 95 ☑️ After last Saturdays blooming awful rain meant we *had* to stay in the hotel room watching films (oh no), on Sunday we bagged Harter Fell and Hardknott, had a nosy at the Roman fort at Hardknott and then drove over the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes to Little Langdale. We finished the Steel Cotton Rail Trail yesterday We finished the Steel Cotton Rail Trail yesterday 🎉 We parked at Grindleford and got the train into Sheffield, then walked the first two stages of the trail. The walk starts out really urban but ends up on the moors above Totley and crossing the Longshaw Estate back to Grindleford Station. Just gorgeous. AD Did you know there’s a new long distance walk AD Did you know there’s a new long distance walking trail launching on Sunday 27 September? Linking Sheffield and Manchester, the Steel Cotton Rail Trail is a new walking route which follows old railway lines, canals and valley paths - perfect if you love exploring on foot and want walks you can do straight from the train. You can do it stage by stage, or link a few together to suit you. We’ve almost walked the whole route (2 stages to go!) and it’s a brilliant trail! We’ve explored places we’d never normally visit and walked a variety of terrain. If you’re looking for an easy low level walk nea If you’re looking for an easy low level walk near Eskdale, save this post! There’s a hidden secret Japanese garden in the woodland known as Giggle Alley which is a brilliant place to explore. The garden was once part of a larger estate but has been left forgotten and now nature is taking over. It’s free to explore, and a brilliant thing to do when the weather is a bit on the rubbish side, and the Japanese maples will be starting to look spectacular over the next few weeks. There’s free parking next to some public loos, right by Eskdale Stores.
