Camping Near Windermere – Social District at Stock Park
Social District sits right on the banks of Windermere, and that lakeside position is really what sets it apart. Being a Greener Camping Club site, it leans firmly into a back-to-basics feel, but if you’re after direct access to the water, whether for a paddleboard or a kayak, it’s hard to beat.

Social District Campsite
The big draw here is the location. With direct access to Windermere right from the site, it’s a brilliant base if you’re bringing a paddleboard or kayak, no faffing about with separate launch points, just carry your kit down and you’re straight on the water.
We stayed in August 2024.
Being a Greener Camping Club site, it has more of a stripped-back, back-to-basics feel, and there’s no EHU, so it’s one for campers happy to go without power for the weekend. Facilities were basic but did the job, with showers and toilets on site. You can pitch pretty much anywhere too, which adds to the relaxed, choose-your-own-spot nature of the place.
There is a very boggy area in the middle of the large camping field though so don’t pitch there! We pitched next to another tent on a dryish patch of the field, but I wish we’d gone over the small bridge and on the left hand side (as you’re looking out to Windermere). We were on the main path down to the lake so had people walking past a lot, and even people walking through our pitch.
Know Before You Go
- Bring your own power solutions – with no EHU on site, pack accordingly if you rely on charging kit.
- Take advantage of the lake access – if you’ve got a paddleboard or kayak, this site makes it effortless.
- Get there with time to find your spot – since pitches aren’t allocated, arriving with a bit of daylight to choose helps.
- Firepits are available on site – great if you want to have a campfire.
- Stock up before you go – there’s no shop onsite, and your nearest supermarkets are: Booths, Ulverston (Oubas Hill, LA12 7LY) – the nearest full supermarket, roughly a 15-20 minute drive Co-op, Coniston (Yewdale Road, LA21 8DU) – a smaller option, similar distance the other direction.
Social District is a great pick if lake access is high on your list. It won’t suit everyone, given the basic facilities and lack of EHU but for paddleboarders, kayakers and anyone happy to keep things simple, waking up right on the banks of Windermere is hard to beat.
