Circular Walk Around Harden Moss in Holmfirth | 4 Miles

August 28, 2021 CIRCULAR WALKS, HOLMFIRTH WALKS, MEDIUM WALKS 4-9 MILES, PEAK DISTRICT WALKS, PEAK DISTRICT WALKS WITH KIDS, YORKSHIRE WALKS

Earlier this week I snuck out of work early and headed up onto the tops with Hols and Joel. Don't worry, my boss doesn't mind. I work for myself! We headed out on a circular walk around Harden Moss in Holmfirth, the home of the famous sheepdog trials. Sadly there were no sheepdogs on our walk today but we did see plenty of sheep!   ... Walk to Eastergate Bridge | 3 Miles

August 26, 2021 SHORT WALKS UNDER 3 MILES, YORKSHIRE WALKS

Eastergate Bridge is an historic packhorse bridge in Marsden. Not only is it a very photogenic bridge, it's a lovely walk and a great place for kids to have a paddle. It's one of the easier walks in Yorkshire on the blog - who doesn't love a nice easy walk with kids? I took Hols and a friend on a walk the other day and decided this would be the place as it's somewhere I've wanted to visit for a ... READ MORE »

Pendle Hill Walk with Kids | 4 Miles

August 25, 2021 CIRCULAR WALKS, LANCASHIRE WALKS, MEDIUM WALKS 4-9 MILES

Pendle Hill trig point

I've wanted to do the Pendle Hill walk ever since we camped in (relatively) nearby Rimington. It stands alone and can be seen for miles around, towering over the little villages that are dotted around it's base, but disappears totally in the mist! At 395m above sea level it's classed as a Marilyn and it's parent peak is actually Kinder Scout, despite it's proximity to the Three Peaks. This Pendle ... READ MORE »

Bell tent glamping in Matfen, Northumberland at Dark Sky Glamping

Ever book a trip away on a whim? I love booking unplanned trips when I have a spare weekend! It doesn't happen very often (thanks, weddings!) but when it does I like to make the most of my free time. I happened to have a free weekend in May so searched for a glamping trip in Northumberland. I bloody love Northumberland, and would go there every weekend if I could. Not move there though - I'm ... Climbing Pen-y-ghent with Kids

August 20, 2021 CIRCULAR WALKS, MEDIUM WALKS 4-9 MILES, YORKSHIRE WALKS

Wondering whether you can climb Pen-y-ghent with kids? Hopefully this blog post will help you decide! This was the first of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with kids for us.     Pen-y-ghent is one of the mountains in the Yorkshire Three Peaks and at 694m above sea level it's pretty high! We chose this one as its the smallest of the three so we thought it would be a nice introduction for ... READ MORE »

Eco Camping in North Wales – Wild Cherry Camping

August 18, 2021 UK CAMPING

A few weeks ago I had a spare weekend and, rather than fester around at home, I decided to book for us to go away. I found Wild Cherry Camping online and thought it seemed the perfect spot for a camping trip. It was our first time eco camping in North Wales - here's how it went! ... READ MORE »

ABOUT ME

Y Garn with Kids - Y Garn via the Devil's Kitchen Walk in Ogwen Valley

Hello! I’m Jo! Welcome to The Wandering Wildflower, an outdoors lifestyle blog focusing on family walks in the Peak District, a place we love exploring. I want to share the Peak District hidden gems and show you there’s so much more than the honeypot places. When I’m not dragging my husband and now 11 year old out on Peak District walks or up mountains, I can be found on planning my next moorland walk or plotting a Geocache walk (and seeing where the nearest pub is!). I love the hills but hate the heights, so trig bagging is – er- fun!

I hope this blog will give you some ideas of places to visit in the Peak District and inspire you and your family to head into the great outdoors.  Thanks for stopping by!
