Scammonden Reservoir Walk Map | 4 Miles
This Scammonden Reservoir walk is just over 4 miles and takes in some beautiful scenery around the Scammonden Valley. It’s a nice walk for kids, with lots for them to see including various statues and artworks along the way.
The terrain is undulating though, with there being some series of steps, so it’s not suitable for pushchairs or mobility scooters. Despite this, it’s a lovely walk to do with kids – be sure to wear wellies though as it’s muddy in places!
The postcode for Scammonden Reservoir parking is HX6 4LD, which takes you to a car park near the reservoir dam wall. There is sometimes an ice cream van parked here but that’s the only amenity.
Heading out of the car park down the hillside, the path is relatively easy to follow around the reservoir and past the Scammonden Sailing Club.
Dotted around the circuit are various sculptures and artworks. There are also some picnic areas to use.
This is a great walk to get kids out and about, and if you’re into Geocaching there’s a great Harry Potter geocache series around here too, which is a great way to keep kids motivated whilst walking. They don’t seem to notice the distance when they’re on a treasure hunt!
There’s a blog post with more tips for walking with kids too.
