Camping in Edale: Newfold Farm Campsite
If you’re looking for a campsite in Edale, at the foot of the Pennine Way, Newfold Farm is the one for you! Edale sits right at the southern end of the Pennine Way and is ringed by some of the Peak District’s best known hills, including Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, Grindslow Knoll and of course the Edale Skyline route.
Edale’s location puts a huge variety of walking within easy reach of the village itself, from short, family-friendly strolls to full-day routes up on the hills. Add in good train links, a couple of welcoming pubs to refuel in afterwards, and a beautiful valley setting, and it’s easy to see why Edale is such a popular base for walkers of every level.

Newfold Farm Campsite
The first thing to know about Newfold Farm is that there’s no allocated pitch, you turn up and choose your own spot, which gives the whole site a really relaxed feel. It suits campers who don’t mind things a little livelier too – this isn’t the spot for total peace and quiet, but if you’re happy with a bit of buzz around the site and a campfire crackling away nearby, it’s brilliant.
We had a pitch in the Grouse field, and chose to go up against the wall.
Facilities across the site were great throughout our stay, with clean showers and loos, and the on-site pizza takeaway serving fresh pizzas turned out to be a genuine highlight, it made evenings properly easy, no cooking required, just good pizza and a fire to sit round. There’s also a cafe serving great food and drink which makes a great place to get breakfast.
As well as tents they have some bell tents, and have campervan spaces too.
Know Before You Go
- Campfires are allowed, and there are firepits available to hire – campfires are very much part of the culture here, so come prepared.
- Arrive with an open mind on pitch choice – since there’s no allocation, it’s worth getting there with a bit of time to scope out a spot you like.
- Take advantage of the pizza takeaway – a brilliant, low-effort option for at least one night of your stay.
- Quiet time is from 10pm and they have a zero tolerance policy on noise – although we didn’t notice this when we stayed. I had to have a friendly chat with our neighbours who got back from the pub at midnight and then started sitting out round a campfire…
- There is a village shop with a range of food and drink – it doesn’t sell much in the way of camping spares though.
- Parking is adjacent to the camping fields – you’re not allowed to drive on the grass.
Newfold Farm is a great pick if you want a great location for hiking, a campsite with a bit of an atmosphere and good facilities and a handy pub not too far away. For a slightly quieter site, you might like Upper Booth Farm Campsite a short distance away.
